Fact 4

Overview

We delivered a 5 MWp ground-mounted solar PV installation supplying renewable energy directly to the adjacent wastewater treatment works. The project comprised two solar arrays served by centrally located high and low voltage switchgear and inverter stations, with a 1.2 MWh battery energy storage system added following completion to support site power management.

The Challenge

The site was located within a designated wildlife area, where strict planning conditions limited construction noise. Ground penetration was also prohibited due to the presence of historic landfill and the potential risk of disturbing contaminated material.

Our Solution

We designed the installation to minimise operational noise, with additional acoustic barriers introduced during construction to support the site's environmental requirements. The solar system was installed entirely above ground, with only the primary switchgear located within the existing wastewater treatment works.

The Approach

We engaged with planning requirements and stakeholder constraints early in the design process, allowing us to develop a solution that supported efficient construction and a smooth delivery for both the client and site team.
